Highway 1
North Coast Corridor Plan
This project will study a 12-mile segment of Highway 1 from San Simeon to Cambria
and provide actionable recommendations for near-term and future projects to increase safety for everyone who travels along that stretch of road.

Goals
This project responds to community feedback heard from hundreds of Cambria and San Simeon residents.
The project goals are:
Understand wildlife patterns around and across Highway 1 and reduce the frequency and severity of automobile collisions with wildlife. The community identified reducing car collisions with wildlife, deer in particular, as a critical need.
Enhance safety for all road users and enhance bicyclist and pedestrian connectivity options to improve access to and enjoyment of coastal recreational opportunities along the corridor.
Recommend ways to minimize climate change vulnerabilities like storm surges, coastal and stormwater flooding, sea level rise, wildfires, landslides, and other impacts.
The Highway 1 North Coast Corridor Plan will result in actionable recommendations for short-term and future projects
to improve the corridor’s safety, increase resilience to climate change impacts, and bring overall benefit to surrounding communities.
